Juma Khutbah 5 April 2019

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, the most high and exalted in might.

Oh people, Fear Allah as He should be feared. Know that the five daily prayers have a big importance with Allah, as it should with the believers. It is the second pillar of Islam after the Shahadah. The salah is the pillar of faith as the Messenger of Allah s.a.w said, “The head of the matter is Islam, its pillar is the prayer and its peak is jihad.”
This is the first thing that you will be questioned about on the day of resurrection.
Allah states in the hadith al qudsi: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: The first of his actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayers. If they are in order, then he will have prospered and succeeded: and if they are wanting, then he will have failed and lost.
And this is the dividing line between the muslim and the kafir. As the messenger s.a.w says: Between man and shirk and kufr is the abandoning of the salah.
Oh slaves of Allah, the salah is not something that you should take lightly. It should be performed in the best manner and on time. It must be performed the way Allah has commanded you to perform it.
Allah says in surah an-nisa, verse 103: And when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, or [lying] on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish [regular] prayer. Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.
Know that the timing, and praying it in the masjid in congregation, is of great importance. This is an obligation on every Muslim male. In the places of living, and travel and even in times of danger and fear.
The congregational prayer is not mustahhab, it is fardh (obligatory) for the male. Remember the first thing that the messenger of Allah s.a.w did after the hijrah to madinah, was to establish a masjid. This was to gather the muslims in congregation for the five prayers and teaching the muslims their deen. It was to unite and strengthen the jama’a. Rasulallah s.a.w commanded that the adhaan should be called, so the people hear and respond to the words of “come to prayer! Come to success!”
There is immense reward for the preparing, the travelling to, and the prayer itself of the Jama’a. As the messenger said in sahih Muslim “There was a man, and I do not know of any other man, whose house was farther than his from the masjid and he never missed the prayer (in congregation). It was said to him or I said to him: If you were to buy a donkey you could ride upon it in the dark nights and in the burning sand. He said: I do not like my house to be situated by the side of the masjid, for I (eagerly) desire that my steps towards the mosque and back from it, should be recorded when I return to my family. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Allah has gathered all (rewards) for you.”
Allah says in surah Yasin verse 12: Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.
It is recorded in Sunan abi dawud: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Give good tidings to those who walk to the masaajid in darkness for having a perfect light on the Day of Judgment.
We learn from Rasulallah s.a.w that missing the jama’a is a characteristic of the hypocrites. He said in sahih bukhari: “No prayer is heavier upon the hypocrites than the Fajr and the `Isha’ prayers and if they knew what is in them (in reward), they would have attended them, even if (it was) crawling. Certainly, I felt the urge to order the Mu’adh-dhin (call-maker) so that he would pronounce Iqama, then order a man to lead the people (in prayer), then take a flame of fire so that I burn (the houses) upon those who had not left for the prayer yet.” And in another narration from Imam Ahmad He s.a.w states that if it was not for the fear of hurting the women and children I would do it. This highlights the seriousness of the matter.

The Prophet said in another naration from ibn majah. : “Whoever hears the call and does not come, his prayer is not valid, except for those who have an excuse.” And the excuse is fear or sickness.

It is narrated in Sunan an-nisai “A blind man came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)and said: ‘I do not have a guide to bring me to the prayer.’ And he asked him to grant him an exemption allowing him to pray in his house, and he gave him permission. Then when he turned away he said to him: ‘Can you hear the call to prayer?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Then respond to it.”
So, what excuse do you and I have if the blind man isn’t excused?
My dear brothers and sisters take your deen seriously for Wallahi it is the greatest blessing that Allah has bestowed upon you.
One of the characteristics of the hypocrites is that he does not attend salah in congregation.
Allah says in Surah An-Nur 36-37
In houses (mosques), which Allah has ordered to be raised (to be cleaned, and to be honoured), in them His Name is glorified in the mornings and in the afternoons or the evenings,
Men whom neither trade nor sale diverts them from the Remembrance of Allah (with heart and tongue), nor from performing As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), nor from giving the Zakat. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned (from the horror of the torment of the Day of Resurrection).

And Allah also states in surah al-munafiqoon verse 9
O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers.

Oh slaves of Allah Fear Allah as He should be feared and stay steadfast upon Islam until you return to your Lord, Oh men of this Ummah attend the jama’a and do not become of the munafiqoon and do not let laziness overtake you.
Do not be of those who the shaytan has tricked into staying up the whole night then when time nears the fajr salah he falls asleep like a dead corpse and does not wake to bow and prostrate to Allah, rather he bowed to his vein desires, wretched is his situation if only he knew.
Allah says in surah Baqarah 208- O you who have believed, enter into Islam completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

So my dear muslim brothers and sisters take him as your enemy for your enemy wants only your destruction and run and hasten towards your Lord because He only wants what is good for you.
So if you preserve your salah you have in fact preserved your every deed.
Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.

Know for Wallahi there is no deen for the one without salah. So preserve your salah oh muslims for it is a pillar of your Islam.
It is recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud- The last words which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) spoke were: the salah, the salah; fear Allah about those whom your right hands possess.
And he kept mentioning this until his tongue can no longer say anything.

So how can a person claim islam without the salah. So how can a person claim they believe in Allah and they do not even humble themselves before The rabb al aalameen. Oh people you were nothing and Allah brought you to life, So fear Him because the good ending is only for those who fear Allah.
So fear Allah as He should be feared and The best words are the words of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. Beware of newly-invented matters, for every newly-invented matter is an innovation (Bid’ah) and every innovation is a going-stray. And every going astray is in the hellfire, and upon you is the jama’a for whoever leaves the jama’a is in the fire.

Allah sends His Salat on the Prophet and also His angels too (ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salat on him, and greet him with the Islamic way of greeting.

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the messenger of Allah, and may Allah be pleased with the rightly guided khulafah, Abubakir, Umar, Uthman and Ali and all the companions, and those who followed them in righteousness until the day of Judgment.
Oh slaves of Allah, Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
And fulfill the covenant of Allah when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allah, over you, a witness. Indeed, Allah knows what you do.
